Wednesday evening February 11, 2009 will see the official launch at WdKA of the book ‘FLOSS+Art' on open source in art and design. The book has been edited by Aymeric Mansoux and Marloes de Valk. The evening will feature presentations by Florian Cramer, Femke Snelting, Michael van Schaik and other contributors and artists.

What does Open Source provide to artists beyond free alternatives to established software? FLOSS+Art is the first comprehensive book on Free and Open Source software (FLOSS) in art and design. Made up of texts by 26 international artists, designers and theoreticians, the book is an introduction into a culture and artistic medium that allows for different work and has its own philosophy, politics and aesthetics. More information on the book is available here.

The publication of FLOSS+Art has been supported by the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam University. This event has been organized in the framework of the new research programme ‘Communication in a Digital Age' of the Piet Zwart Institute at WdKA.
