Originally trained as an audiovisual designer and teacher in art education, Barend Onneweer is an independent post-production artist and educator working across colour, visual effects, animation and design.
He runs the independent post-production studio Raamw3rk, working primarily with documentary and independent filmmakers, artists and other (moving) image makers. His practice combines a strong technical background with an artistic, author-driven approach, often moving between disciplines within a single project.
A particular interest is the relationship between craft and artistic ownership in a field that is collaborative by nature and increasingly dominated by large-scale post-production facilities. Through his own practice, Onneweer explores small-scale alternatives and develops tools and workflows that allow creative control to remain close to the makers of a project.
As an educator, he has worked in a wide range of roles and environments, from teaching masterclasses and workshops in New York and Los Angeles to heading the Bachelor Animation department at Willem de Kooning Academy.
As a core tutor for the Master Lens-based Media, Barend works with students through individual tutoring and seminars like the Toolbox sessions. His teaching connects practical experimentation with critical thinking, exploring how the tools and technologies we use shape both the making and meaning of moving images.
