Rossella Nisio is a visual artist whose work has a strong focus on notions of memory, imagination and space. She has a background in the theory of cinema and performing arts at the University of Roma Tre (DAMS); she pursued a practical training first within the field of documentary photography at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and gradually shifted towards an autonomous approach to still and moving image making during her years at Ar.Co in Lisbon. In 2019 she earned an MA in Fine Art and Design at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. She was a recipient of the Mondriaan Fonds’ Emerging Talent Stipendium. Her works have been shown in festivals as the Rencontres Internationales in Paris and Berlin, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Go Short International Short Film Festival, IndieLisboa, and are included in the collections of the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam and the CFMDC in Toronto. She was a resident artist at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 2021-23.
